"As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." But, in what way was Christ sent? He came into the world, as a culture-experiencing, culture-making human. We too have been given this mission. We believe that missionaries belong not only in other countries, but here in our local communities to love our neighbors by bearing His message through our lives. The Missionality class shows us our response to knowing the Gospel, by living that Gospel out, and working to build the kingdom of God in our specific time and place. This class will be very deep theologically, but also very practical for your life of following Jesus.

This is a four week class every Monday starting May 19th, 7-8pm at the Vintage21 building. To register email: Journeyclasses@vintage21.com and let us know if you will need childcare.

Thanks and I hope to see you on May 19th!

In preparing for this class, I wanted to give everyone an opportunity to throw me some questions they might have related to the mission of the Church, how "missions" is related to the topic of "mission," etc. Please send me your thoughts (rd@vintage21.com) or post them on here.

Here is how I am splitting up the four weeks of the class:

Week 1: Confessing our Idols
We are all blinded by our idolatry, so we constantly need to appropriate the areas in which we are participating in the worship of the gods of our culture.

Week 2: Holistic Justice
The salvation of God is spiritual, but includes ecological, social, and psychological dimensions. To faithfully live out God's mission in the world we cannot forsake any of these dimensions.

Week 3: Local and Global
We may understand "missions" as being sent to another country, but the primary emphasis of the New Testament is on communities engaging their specific contexts with the gospel - while not neglecting the global implications of our indigenous mission.

Week 4: Praxis in Community
None of these topics are "light" or simple. In order to build the Kingdom we need each other.
